The article deals with the relationship of Camillo Pellegrino (1598-1663), one of the most important 17th-century antiquaries from south Italy, with Lucas Holstein and Niklaas Heinsius, and the relationship between the Neapolitan cultural environment and scholars in the service of Barberini family. Pellegrino’s influence seems to have been pivotal to the 17th-century European travellers who visited the monuments of ancient Capua to observe and collect ancient artifacts (especially coins and inscriptions). Furthermore, the collaboration with the Dutch scholars (and Cassiano dal Pozzo) was fundamental to Pellegrino’s researches and their wider circulation.
