In 1985, S. Radt included fr. **61a in the section of TrGF III dedicated to Aeschylus’ Edonians, the first play of the Lycurgeia. Ten years later, R. Kassel and C. Austin printed the same fragment as Com. adesp. fr. *831. This paper re-examines the textual tradition, the compositional technique and the poetics of the fragment, in an attempt to shed light on the issues related to its authorship and its most appropriate editorial treatment. Information transmitted by Ath. V 215c-e turns out to be crucial for determining the comic nature of the fragment.
