Images of imperial consorts in 4th century epitomators: the cases of Plotina and Sabina

This article aims to show the image conveyed by the epitomators of the fourth century AD, specifically Eutropius, Aurelius Victor, and the Epitome de Caesaribus, of Plotina and Sabina and their relationship with power. Both were members of Trajan’s domus, which was greatly admired by contemporary and later historiography. It will also be shown how the brief notes on both imperial wives contained in the works of these authors are intended to be a reflection of the optimus princeps.

Keywords: Imperial women, Eutropius, Aurelius Victor, Epitome de Caesaribus, Traianus, Adrianus.
